Swedish Arthroplasty Register Industry Application
The register is a merger, since September 2021, of the Swedish Knee Arthroplasty Register started in 1975 and the Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register in 1979.
The register started to record primary knee replacements and revisions at the personal identification number level from the start in 1975. From 1979 the register recorded initially, only reoperations for total hip replacements at the personal identification number level, while the number of primary operations with total hip replacements was monitored (but not at the personal identification number level). In 1992, primary operations for total hip replacements also began to be registered with personal identification numbers. The Swedish Arthroplasty Register started recording specific implants at the article number level in 1999. In 2005, hemiarthroplasty operations began to be registered.
Over the past 10 years, the Swedish Arthroplasty Register has had a coverage rate of 97-98% for knee replacements and total hip replacements compared to the patient registry, and for hemiarthroplasties, 94-98% since its start in 2005. The industry application presents data from 1999 onwards.
